Storybook Theatre
For more than a quarter-century, StoryBook Theatre has been part of the Calgary community, producing quality family theatre for children of all ages. What began in 1977 with founder Ellie Tims and a group of passionate teachers has grown into a long-standing home for accessible, family-focused theatre.

StoryBook began with original plays and classic fairy tales, later expanding as Calgary’s families and needs changed. They increased their seasons, introduced new show formats, and adapted their programming to serve children of all ages.
Dedicated Spaces for Creativity
Over the years, StoryBook developed and moved through several theatre spaces — from the Pumphouse Theatre to the Community Arts Centre and now the Beddington Heights Theatre Arts Centre. Each move allowed them to build rehearsal studios, performance areas, costume storage, and other essential creative spaces.

StoryBook’s growth has been shaped by volunteers and the mentorship of emerging artists. By partnering newcomers with professionals and relying on volunteer support, StoryBook has become a bridge between community theatre and professional practice.

Producing multiple plays and musicals each season, including family-focused shows like the Cookie Cabaret and Adventure Theatre.
